The Houston Texans kicked off their 2022 preseason with a thrilling 17-13 comeback victory against the New Orleans Saints at NRG Stadium on Saturday night. Quarter Back Davis Mills started the game by completing 3-of-3 passes for 14 yards after which Backup QB Jeff Driskel had an incredible game with 16-of-26 for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

One of these touchdowns was extremely special as wide receiver Jalen Camp decided to celebrate his teammate John Metchie III who is fighting Leukemia. Jalen Camp caught a 4-yard pass from Driskel in the third quarter and struck his famous ‘Crane’ pose much the way Metchie would after a big play during his time in Alabama.

The Houston Texans selected John Metchie in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In July, the former Crimson Tide came out with a statement through the team in July revealing that he was diagnosed with APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia), which halted his professional football career before starting.

“Recently, I was diagnosed with APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia), the most curable form of Leukemia,” Metchie’s July statement read. “I am currently receiving great medical care, am in good spirits and I expect to make a recovery at a later point in time. As a result of this diagnosis, I will likely not be playing football this season. My main focus will be on my health and recovery. Thank you in advance for your support and well-wishes. I cannot wait to come back stronger than ever. God bless.”
