James Anderson, the former England cricketer, shocked the cricketing world by putting his name in the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is set to go down at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25. In his recent interview, the 42-year-old broke his silence on the reasoning behind trying his hand at the IPL for the first-time in his career, and said that he still has more to give as a player to the sport.

For the unversed, James Anderson last played a T20 match in his career more than 10 years ago for his county side Lancashire in the T20 Blast competition. The last appearance in T20I cricket for the right-arm fast bowler in England colours came way back in 2009, and in his short form career, he has played just 44 matches and picked up 41 wickets at an economy of 8.47.

There is still definitely something in me that thinks like I can still play: James Anderson

When one of the hosts on the BBC Radio’s show asked James Anderson about the reason to put his name in the IPL 2025 mega auction, the former England cricketer responded, as per Times Now, “There is still definitely something in me that thinks like I can still play. I have never done the IPL; I have never experienced it and I think for a number of reasons I feel like I have more to give as a player.”

James Anderson alluded to never experiencing the spectacle that is the Indian Premier League (IPL) in his illustrious journey, which is still on his bucket list in the twilight of his cricketing career. He was quoted as saying, “I just think opening my eyes to something like that and experiencing it, sort of might help me grow my knowledge of the game and help further down the line.”

Notably, James Anderson retired from international cricket at the start of the English summer earlier this year after playing his final Test for the national team against West Indies at the Lord’s in London.
