On Saturday, July 6, during the Money in the Bank PLE from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, John Cena made a surprise return to WWE. But in a shocking turn of events, the 16-time world champion announced his in-ring retirement from WWE before stating that he will compete for the last time inside the squared circle in 2025.

Trish Stratus, the WWE Hall of Famer from Canada, who was the official host of the WWE Money in the Bank PLE, spoke about her history as a professional wrestler at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Moments later, Trish Stratus alluded to a certain someone, for whom she was a mystery partner in this arena a decade and a half ago before welcoming John Cena to the stage.

John Cena arrived in front of a rowdy Canadian crowd with his merchandise branded as “The Last Time Is Now,” which surprised everyone in the arena. After taking in the adulation of the WWE Universe, he took to the mic to officially announce his retirement from the promotion to the shock of one and all.

Upon sharing his reasons behind announcing the big decision in Toronto, John Cena stated that the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber PLEs will be his last in 2025. He went on to remark that the WrestleMania 41, which will go down in Las Vegas, is also going to be the last of his career as an in-ring performer.

The 47-year-old said “Thank you” to the fans for staying by his side all these years. In response, the WWE Universe at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto chanted “Thank you, Cena!,” to which he again thanked them again for their noise, love, and honesty.
