Defending German champions Bayern Munich started the 2022-23 season with a dominant 6-1 win over Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt. The game was played at the roaring Waldstadion where Die Adler fans brought out smoke flares to create a mystical atmosphere for the season opener.
But amidst this haunting smoke, the Bavarians kicked off their landslide victory with Joshua Kimmich’s wily free kick to outsmart keeper Kevin Trapp, who was looking for a cross from almost 30 yards out. But Kimmich whipped directly into the goal to make the score 1-0. Only four minutes later, Bayern got a corner which went straight to Benjamin Pavard, who slammed it into the goal.

Then the Bayern Munich's new signing Sadio Mané scored his first Bundesliga goal in the 29th minute. Six minutes later, Jamal Musiala scored another goal to make the score 4-0. Serge Gnabry at the 43-minute mark scored the fifth goal as Bayern Munich capped off a historic first-half performance. The Bavarians scored another goal in the second half to register a monumental opening day victory.
Reacting to this performance, Joshua Kimmich addressed how he was having fun on the pitch. He said, "It was really fun on the pitch today. Of course, we can criticise the fact we didn't keep a clean sheet, again. It wasn't bad going forward. It was really fun to be on the pitch today. We knew that there would always be spaces behind Kostić and Knauff, and we utilised them very well. The four up front, that's fun. The team is in a good place. We can make something of this. We mustn't let up, but we can go into the next few games feeling good."
