The UK’s environmental activist group Just Stop Oil, which is funded by Aileen Getty of the Getty Oil Dynasty, has dropped hints that it will try to interrupt British GP 2023 at Silverstone this weekend. The climate change activist group posted a video on their social media channel celebrating their protest at the 2022 edition. The protesting group earlier disrupted two matches at Wimbledon as well as the first day of the Ashes Test 2023.

The activist group dropped a music video on Twitter with a Primus’ song ‘Jerry Was A Race Car Driver'. The video seemingly poked fun at the disruption it caused at the British GP 2022 as the protestors invaded the track. Five members of the group sat on the Wellington Straight and were quickly taken off the track. The members were spared jail earlier this year for the protest that risked the death of drivers and marshals.

The hint comes from the statement made by the Managing Director of Silverstone, Stuart Pringle, as he said that if protests are carried out on the tracks this weekend, then there is 'high likelihood of serious injury or death'.

The protesting group was earlier in a conversation with The Athletic and when asked whether they would interrupt the British GP, it said, "Just Stop Oil will continue disrupting sports and cultural events until the government makes a meaningful statement to halt and new licences or consents for fossil fuel exploration in the UK.”

Ahead of the race, the Northamptonshire Police had confirmed they would provide ‘extra security’ during events on Saturday and Sunday. The police will use facial recognition technology and automobile number plate identification technology. Not only this, but teams of armed cops, disruption officers and search teams will also be deployed at the event.
