The Rajasthan Royals' social media team has recently posted a video of their captain Sanju Samson getting some valuable wicketkeeping lessons from Sri Lanka cricket legend Kumar Sangakkara. The inaugural champions will take on SunRisers Hyderabad on Tuesday, at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Last season both these teams were at the bottom of the table. Hence Samson would want to push for the playoffs and end their 14-year-old trophy drought. The video of the training session was posted on social media which also included Lasith Malinga as well.
Here is the video:
The Rajasthan Royals retained Sanju Samson before the 2022 Mega Auction and Sangakkara justified this decision in an interview posted on the RR Twitter in December 2021. He said, “We worked really hard in terms of working with our newly-formed data analytic team, with the help of all our partners in India and in the US we finally decided, of course, Sanju Samson, it was a no-brainer in terms of being our captain, number one.”
“Samson is going to be the long-term leader of this unit of Rajasthan Royals. He is an exceptional player and he has shown time and time again what a wonderful asset he has been for RR.”
Sangakkara also talked about the decision to retain Mumbai-born batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. He said, “We have retained Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young Indian opener, an absolute star in the making. He had a very very good season pre-retention, extremely talented. Yashasvi is a very very quick learner. He is a hard worker and he will be our uncapped retention,” Sangakkara said.
