The Monchengladbach police in Germany have arrested 205 fans outside Borussia Park for violent clashes a night before the Rhine derby in the Bundesliga. Among the fans taken in custody, 131 are from FC Koln, while 74 are from Borussia Monchengladbach, and notably, three police officers got injured on duty, and one of them was unable to continue any further.
The home side, Borussia Monchengladbach fans were outside the ground, preparing a choreography on the eve of their upcoming match in the Bundesliga. But, when the away fans from FC Koln saw them, violent clashes erupted between both sets of supporters outside the Borussia Park.
It led to the Monchengladbach police being called to the scene, who arrested the fans, using buses from a local transport company with a few officers suffering injuries during the entire ordeal. Following this, the Monchengladbach police called in additional forces to gain full control of the situation.
The statement from the Monchengladbach police read, “The police forces on site were able to prevent further confrontation between the two groups and separate the problem fans. To do this, they had to call in additional forces and use pepper spray and the multi-purpose baton.”
“The police are initiating investigations into, among other things, violations of the Explosives Act, serious breaches of the peace, and resistance to the emergency services,” they added.
