The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are hosting the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 Qualifier 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While the Shreyas Iyer-led side was the first to seal the playoffs qualification, the Hyderabad-based franchise solidified their second place after Rajasthan Royals’ home match against KKR ended in a no result.
But as the two sides took the field in Ahmedabad this evening, it was Pat Cummins who won the toss and elected to bat first. While the SRH openers departed cheaply on the score of 0 and 3, Rahul Tripathi played a slow and steady knock of 55. But after helping the team cross the 100-run mark, he departed in a bizarre run out.
Watch Rahul Tripathi’s mix-up with Abdul Samad:
Tripathi, who survived a lbw call, he was involved in a mix-up with Abdul Samad and was eventually run out at the striker’s end. After his wicket, Tripathi was left completely dejected and he was then pictured sitting on the stairs to the SRH dressing room. Heartbreaking images of this incident is now doing rounds on social media.
Sunil Gavaskar lashes out after mix-up involving Rahul Tripathi
Former India cricketer turned commentator, Sunil Gavaskar was left unimpressed with Samad, which led to the wicket of Rahul Tripathi. “Totally Samad’s fault. Tripathi was backing up alright. There was no run in it. The ball was stopped. Unnecessary wicket …. at wrong time for Sunrisers,” Gavaskar said while commentating during KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1.
Other than Gavaskar, Ian Bishop also spoke of this bizarre dismissal. “I don’t think I have ever seen that sort of posture openly from a dismissed batsman. He had just cleared the boundary before,” Bishop said.
