As a crucial partnership between Gill and wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul, who scored a 41* off 47 helped India finsh on the other side of the line with 21 balls to spare. Moreover, as he walked out after the match to greet the Bangladesh side along with the concerned officials, a gesture from the India skipper grabbed several eyeballs.

While Gill was the fastest Indian to reach his eighth ODI hundred, his 125-ball 100 against Bangladesh was his slowest in the format. For his match-winning knock, Gill was even honoured with the Player of the Match award. "Definitely one of my most satisfying innings that I have played and my first century in ICC events. Very satisfying and very happy with the way I performed," Gill said.
