After getting bundled out at the score of 46 in the first innings against New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, a gritty Test hundred from Sarfaraz Khan helped India to comeback strongly in the second innings. On day four of the ongoing first Test in Bengaluru, the Indian youngster scored his maiden Test ton to help India get closer to the score which New Zealand had posted.
On Day 4 of the Bengaluru Test, the Mumbai batter who went for a three-ball duck in the first innings, went up to score his maiden Test ton after he reached the fifty-plus score on Day 3. He made all necessary amends to get to this mark after scoring a double hundred in the Irani Cup against the Rest of India.
Sarfaraz scores maiden Test hundred in first Test against New Zealand
Batting at number four in the first Test, Sarfaraz added to his 70-run knock from Day 3 early on Saturday, October 19. In the 356-run pursuit, Sarfaraz who was joined by wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant at the start of Day 4, completed his maiden Test hundred in only 110 balls, with his knock lacing with 13 fours and three sixes. The 26-year-old celebrated this crucial Test ton as he went running around the ground, raising his helmet and bat in either hand.

Notably, the hundred marked Sarfaraz’s 16 First Class ton and second in consecutive matches. With this, he is only the seventh Indian No. 4 to score a Test hundred in this century, joining an elite list comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly and Ajinkya Rahane.
Speaking of the ongoing Test match in Bengaluru, at the end of 71 overs, Indian scorecard read 344/3 with Sarfaraz Khan (125 off 154) and Rishabh Pant (53 off 56) in the middle before rain halted play.
