Shaheen Afridi, one of the premier fast bowlers in world cricket, has reckoned that Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, will be a massive threat to Pakistan in their upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Saturday, October 14. The 23-year-old spoke about how Rohit Sharma has scored a lot of runs for the Indian cricket team, which makes him a tough player to compete against.

Even when it is billed as the greatest rivalry in cricket, India versus Pakistan has been a one-sided affair in the ODI World Cup, where the Men in Blue got the better of the upcoming opponents seven times without losing. But, it puts some pressure on the Indian cricket team to keep the 7-0 streak going, which is not such a bad scenario for the Men in Green to play in, without any real weight of expectations from their fans.
Star Sports shared the video of the sit-down interview with Shaheen Afridi on their official X account, where he talked at length about the Indian captain. He was quoted as saying in his native language, “Rohit Sharma, India ka wo kaptaan bhi hai, aur wo upar se aisaa player hai, usne kaafi runs kiye hai, mushkil player hai aur. Zaahir si baat hai agar aap kisi bhi team ka kaptaan ko jaldi out kar le, toh zaahir si baat hai ki jo piche waale players hai unpar kaafi pressure build-up hota hai. Aur wo (Rohit Sharma) main player hai unka (Team India) aur mera ye (aim) hoga ki agar unn ki wicket li toh team pe pressure build-up hoga.”

The translation of the statement from Shaheen Afridi reads, “Rohit Sharma is the captain of India, and on top of that, he is that sort of a player, who has scored a lot of runs, he is a tough player. It’s obvious that if you dismiss the captain of a team early, then it will obviously build up a lot of pressure on the players coming afterward. And he (Rohit Sharma) is the main player for them (Team India), and my (aim) is going to be taking his wicket, to build up pressure on the team.”
