In the absence of Shubman Gill, the opening slot for India in the first two matches of the flagship tournament was taken by the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan. The 25-year-old was dismissed for a golden duck against Australia in his first outing of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai before he scored a run-a-ball 47 against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The video of the arrival of Shubman Gill in the city of Ahmedabad, in a mask while being flanked by a whole host of security personnel at the airport, has gone viral on social media. It was shared by one of the well-known personalities on Cricket Twitter, who goes by the name of Mufaddal Vohra, with the excerpts of the caption reading, “Hope we get to see Gill soon in action…”
