England’s premier fast bowler Stuart Broad was seen involved with Australia’s wicket-keeper Alex Carey on the fifth day of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s. The incident occurred as a result of Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal in the 52nd over of the innings.
Cameron Green bowled a bouncer to Bairstow, who ducked the ball and immediately began to walk towards his partner, Ben Stokes without making any attempt to signal the wicketkeeper or the slip cordon. Before trudging to the other end, some players frequently check with the keeper to make sure the ball is dead. However, Bairstow didn't bother, flung it, turned around, and leisurely walked out of the crease. Carey scored on a direct hit, while Bairstow was not even seen in the frame as the bails got dislodged.
Broad walked into bat right after Bairstow got out and was clearly furious with Alex Carey’s way of dismissing Bairstow. "You'll forever be remembered for that," said Broad after joining Ben Stokes at the crease, as the crowd at Lord's continued to boo loudly.

Broad continued his humour by turning to Pat Cummins and declaring that the dismissal was the worst thing he had ever witnessed in cricket. The English seamer also attacked Marnus Labuschagne, who was fielding at short leg, during their heated verbal altercation. Soon after, Broad and Cummins engaged in another back-and-forth in which Cummins questioned Broad: "Do you think that's out?" after the Australia captain blew a good chance to get Ben Stokes caught and bowled.
Broad kept exaggerating the dismissal throughout the innings. He was seen tapping the bat in an amplified manner inside the crease sarcastically upon reaching the crease. He then asked the Aussie fielders if the ball was actually dead or not. He went on to score 11(36) before being dismissed by Josh Hazlewood. This banter gained a lot of attention from the fans.

But the sledging did not favour Broad as England were bundled out for 327, as Australia took the 2nd Test by a narrow margin of 43 runs. England are now 2-0 down in the Ashes after losing at Edgbaston and Lord’s. Although captain Ben Stokes played an outstanding fiery innings of 155, it was not enough for them to win. With pressure piling up on the hosts, they will be desperate to make a comeback in the third Test at Headingley.
