Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian captain, danced like a child to celebrate the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title triumph of Team India at the expense of the Black Caps at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 9. In the grand finale, played in Dubai, the Indian cricket team defeated New Zealand by four wickets with an over to spare while in pursuit of a 252-run target on a tough pitch to bat against the spinners.
Following the title triumph, as the Indian players celebrated on the stage with the coveted trophy, Sunil Gavaskar, who is 75 years of age, was spotted jumping in the air before shaking a leg on a live TV show produced by Star Sports like he was the only kid in the candy store. Such enthusiasm from the legendary cricketer after being a part of Indian cricket for the better part of six decades, showcases how much he cares for the sport in the country and the players.
Sunil Gavaskar continued dancing on live TV news channel and Kapil Dev joined them
The celebrations didn’t stop for Sunil Gavaskar as he continued his dancing live on TV with India Today news channel, performing the Bhangra, during their show hosted by Vikrant Gupta alongside him in Dubai, while his teammate Kapil Dev did the exact same from the studio in India. Kapil Dev was the captain of the Indian cricket team during their first ICC title win in 1983 alongside Sunil Gavaskar, beating the mighty West Indies in the ODI World Cup final.
Moreover, the Champions Trophy 2025 title triumph was the seventh ICC finals victory for the Indian cricket team, and their third in the aforementioned tournament, with the first two coming in 2002 and 2013. The Men in Blue already have two ICC Cricket World Cups, which were won in 1983 and 2011, apart from two ICC T20 World Cups, achieved in 2007 and 2024.
The next assignment for the Indian cricket team at the international level will be in England, where they will be playing a five-match Test series against the hosts, starting on June 20.
