At the Spectrum Center, the tempers flared between both sets of players during the game between Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons, after Brandon Miller and Isaiah Stewart were going back and forth against each other. The two of the bottom teams of the NBA Eastern Conference last season, with a willingness to get going early in the new year, had their players involved in a scuffle during the gruelling game in Charlotte.

The Detroit Pistons took the big lead of 32-21 in the first quarter, but the Charlotte Hornets closed the deficit to seven points, with the scoreline reading 54-47 in favour of the visitors at the end of the second quarter. The Hornets had a better second half in comparison to the first one, with LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier notching up 20 points each, yet they conceded the game to the Pistons by a scoreline of 111-99, with Alec Burks putting together 24 points.
Brandon Miller, the Charlotte Hornets rookie, who was in the thick of things in the first half of the game, had no hesitation in getting face-to-face with the big man Isaiah Stewart. After PJ Washington managed to get his teammate Brandon Miller separated from Isaiah Stewart, he had a shoving match with Jalen Duren as well.

The referee reviewed the incident to hand out four technical fouls, one each to the players in question. Later on, PJ Washington committed a foul on Isaiah Stewart, which resulted in flagrant 2 and an automatic ejection from the game for him.
