The second day of the fourth Test between India and Australia ended with India’s opening pair- Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill successfully playing the first ten overs without losing a wicket. While the day almost belonged to Australia who added 225 runs to their overnight total at the expense of six wickets, India also had their moments. R Ashwin stole the show with his six-wicket haul.
With the bat, Rohit and Gill did not take too many chances and played safely to negate any advantage to Australia. Day 3 is expected to decide the course of the game. A lot will depend on the Indian top order which has not lived up to the expectations so far in this series. While the openers will be expected to provide a solid start, the middle order will be expected to capitalize on that start and provide India with a hefty first-inning lead.
Virat Kohli will be the key batter for India and the former captain needs to score big if the hosts are looking to win this Test. The batter knows the value of his wicket and hence he stepped out for a brief batting practice session after the end of Day 2’s play. Kohli was seen knocking a few balls around with his pads on.
Notably, Kohli has got starts in the first three Tests but he has been unable to capitalize on them. While the former skipper scored 44 and 20 in the second Test, he got out after scoring 22 and 13 in the third Test. Now, as he has looked good and the pitch in the fourth Test is the best batting wicket so far in this series, Kohli will be expected to go big.
