Dwayne Bravo, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor, has defended the tough start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season for the defending champions after they have won only one of three matches. The 41-year-old remarked that KKR aren’t the only team in the aforementioned position ahead of their upcoming home match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata against last year’s finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Notably, in the IPL 2025 opener, KKR were thumped by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at home before Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated them in a one-sided contest at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai recently. The only victory for KKR in the ongoing IPL season came against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, and as of this writing, they are in 10th and last place on the points table.

You don't want a player or expect any player to be consistent for 14 games: Dwayne Bravo

In the build-up to the rematch of the last years’ IPL final, Dwayne Bravo was quoted as saying in the press conference, as per Cricbuzz, “We aren't the only teams after three matches in this position.” KKR have won one out of three matches just like MI, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad, and SRH, but the difference maker is their worst NRR among all these aforementioned teams.

Dwayne Bravo also spoke about some of the senior batters, including names like Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, and Andre Russell, in the KKR batting lineup not finding form at the start of the IPL 2025 season, pointing out that its too early to judge them. He said, “In a tournament where there are 14 games, you don't judge a player who has success over the years after two games. So basically, you're judging them based on two games, because in one game, none of them got to bat. In IPL, you don't want a player or expect any player to be consistent for 14 games.”

“But it's important to keep encouraging them, remind them of how great they are. They already have success in IPL. They already have success with this franchise, and it's just a matter of backing them,” he added.
