In a surprising turn of events, West Indies Women all-rounder Deandra Dottin has called time on her career citing current team environment non-conductive to thrive. Dottin, who is currently in Birmingham representing Barbados in Commonwealth Games 2022 announced her decision via Twitter on Sunday (July 31).

While making an official announcement about her retirement Dottin stated that her fire for the game has burned out and she needs time to reassess her commitment. "This announcement has come with much contemplation as cricket has always been passion of mine. However, when the fire burns out, one has to take time to reassess their commitment," Dottin said in the post.

The 34-year-old further made shocking claims that the current climate and team environment has been 'non-conductive' to her ability to 'thrive and reignite her passion.' "There have been many obstacles during my cricket career that I have had to overcome however, the current climate and team environment has been non-conductive to my ability to thrive and reignite my passion," her tweet read.

She further expressed her disappointment over the fact that she is "no longer able to adhere to team culture and team environment as it has undermined my ability to perform excellently." However, Dottin will take part in Barbados Commonwealth Games campaign as the Caribbean side is set to take on India Women in a do-or-die group game on Wednesday.

Speaking of Deandra Dottin, the right-handed batter retires as second-highest run scorer for the West Indies in both women's ODIs and T20Is, and fourth on the wicket-takers list for the side in the shortest format. She has played 260 international games across the two-white ball formats, scoring over 6000 runs and taking over 130 wickets.

Speaking of her CWG 2022 campaign, Dottin is far from her best with the bat and ball which has severely impacted the results for her side. She has only scored 12 runs (6 and 6) in first two games against Pakistan Women and Australia Women and has picked only one wicket so far.
