Ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, a six-foot-nine Indian fast bowler, Nishanth Saranu grabbed a lot of attention. Saranu was part of a group of net bowlers available for the Pakistan team in Hyderabad and was chosen by the Pakistan support staff, which included the bowling coach, Morne Morkel. With Pakistani bowlers like Rauf and Shaheen bringing express pace in the range of 140-150 kmph, the young Hyderabad pacer was asked to increase his bowling speed. Saranu also bowled to tail-enders and opener, Fakhar Zaman, in their first training session. Zaman talked about how the teenager could succeed if he worked on his pace and generated extra bounce.
Talking about his experience with Pakistan camp, Saranu talked about how Morne Morkel asked him if he could bowl the nets for the Lucknow Super Giants. While speaking to the Hindu, Saranu said, "I currently can bowl up to 125-130 kmph. Morne (Morkel) sir asked me to increase my pace.”
