The return of Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant to competitive cricket after 15 months of hiatus has been one of the major positives from the IPL 2024. Seeing the T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled to be played in the USA and the West Indies in June this year, the Indian team is sure to avoid many surprises.
For the wicketkeeper-batter’s role in the T20 World Cup, Rishabh Pant is definitely one of the frontrunners, seeing his decent run in the ongoing IPL 2024. Former Australia captain Michael Clarke also believes that Pant’s return is one of the good news for the former champions.
“Yeah look it’s great for Indian cricket, but it’s also great for Rishabh Pant. I think the work that has gone into his rehab to get back to that level of play at any standard is an amazing achievement. He deserves a lot of credit for his hard work and it’s great to see him on the field, captaining and playing well, batting and keeping,” the former Australia captain Michael Clarke told Star Sports.
“He’s wonderful player and everybody is happy that he’ back on the field and we want to see him play for Delhi, but we also want to see him come back and play for India as soon as possible,” he further added.
Both Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant should be in India’s T20 World Cup squad: Brian Lara
Not only Michael Clarke, former West Indies cricketer and one of the greats of the game, Brian Lara also feels Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson should be there in the Indian squad for the World Cup. “I think both players should go. They both have put the best show so far in terms of batting,” he said on Star Sports.
“Sanju Samson is an awesome player, a great timer of the ball. Rishabh Pant has been good for India over the years. Obviously, coming back from the incident, I think he has shown great form. For me, those two are definitely the frontrunners for the position,” Lara further added.
