Rohit Sharma, the Indian Test and ODI captain, missed out on playing the previous Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match for Mumbai Indians (MI) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) away at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow last week due to a knee issue. With that, there have been some doubts in regards to whether the 37-year-old will play against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, April 7, and as of this writing, the MI team management haven’t confirmed his status.

Notably, ahead of the RCB game at home, in a bid to prove his fitness, Rohit Sharma was among the first set of batters of MI to take guard in the nets on Sunday, April 6, as per the report from ESPNcricinfo. It is understood that the MI veteran took on the returning Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner, and Karn Sharma in the nets while batting alongside his opening partner Ryan Rickelton from South Africa.

Rohit Sharma has scored just 21 runs in three innings for MI in IPL 2025

After spending quality time in the nets with the bat in hand, Rohit Sharma walked away before sitting behind the nets to watch other MI players go about their work in the practice session. Since he wasn’t seemingly under any discomfort according to the ESPNcricinfo reporter, there is a definite chance of him playing against RCB, quite possibly as an Impact Player in place of Raj Bawa, who had replaced him versus LSG last week.

Moreover, Rohit Sharma has had a poor start to the IPL 2025 in MI colours, scoring just 21 runs in three innings for them before missing out on playing the LSG match. He has scores of 0, 13, 8 to his name in the first three outings, getting dismissed in the powerplay stage, which isn’t a good look for one of the best batters of his generation in limited-overs cricket.

But regardless, there is no question about the class of Rohit Sharma, and it could well be that he finds a way to score a big one against RCB at home later tonight.
