Williams racer Alex Albon is set to miss the Italian Grand Prix after he was diagnosed with appendicitis. Replacing Albon, former Formula 2 and Formula E champion N yck De Vries will get a chance to make his F1 debut. Albon looked promising as he had a 10th place finish in FP2 and 11th in FP1 with Williams’ straight-line speed that could have put them in the points at Monza.
However, before the final practice at Monza, Williams announced that the former Red Bull driver will not participate in the remainder of the weekend. De Vries drove for Williams in FP1 of the Spanish Grand Prix. He finished the first practice session 19th for the team. As a result, the 27-year-old will make his Grand Prix debut this weekend, along with Nicholas Latifi.
In a statement, the Williams team addressed Albon’s absence saying, “Williams Racing can confirm that, after feeling unwell this morning and seeking medical advice from the FIA and local hospital, Alex Albon is now undergoing treatment for appendicitis."
“Following on from this, we can confirm that the team’s Reserve Driver Nyck de Vries will drive in place of Alex for the remainder of the Italian Grand Prix weekend. Alex is in good spirits and the team wishes him a speedy recovery.”

Albon also posted a tweet addressing his health condition where he pointed out at the positives and negatives of the situation.
Ahead of the final race, Albon was very excited with his run in the first two practice sessions and expressed that his car had a lot of pace. He said, “It is, and we saw that at Spa. In Spa there were a lot of penalties, we were able to hold people off – I say, why not? Why can’t we do it this weekend as well? It’s harder here to hold people off, but I think we have the pace. We’re quicker this weekend than we were at Spa – so let’s see.”
