Indian captain Rohit Sharma joked about how fans should burst crackers after the Men in Blue win the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 during a press conference after the team’s Asia Cup 2023 triumph. Team India decimated Sri Lankan with a 10-wicket margin to win their eighth Asia Cup title. Mohammed Siraj was the star of the final after figures of 6-21 to bundle out the Lankans to a score of 50.

In the second innings, the opening pair of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan easily chased down the target to help register a 10-wicket win in just 6.1 overs. After the match, as Sharma addressed the media, fans outside the stadium started bursting crackers as he answered a question. Reacting to these fireworks, Rohit Sharma jokingly said, “World Cup jeetne ke baad phodo yaar,” translating to, burst the firecrackers after we win the World Cup.

Further in the press conference, Rohit Sharma shared an update on the off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who could be part of the World Cup 2023 squad as a bowling all-rounder. Addressing left-arm spinner Axar Patel’s injury, Sharma talked about Ashwin being in line for the all-rounder’s spot.

“As a spinner-all-rounder, Ashwin is in line, I have been talking to him on the phone,” Rohit reiterated. “The injury happened to Axar at the last minute. Washington was available, so he had to come and perform the role for us. He (Washington) was cricket-fit because he was part of the Asian Games camp (in Bengaluru). I have been very clear with players about their roles. Everyone is in the loop.”
