For the third time in less than a year, India lost to Australia in the final of an ICC event. While the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue lost to Pat Cummin’s Australia at the World Test Championship (WTC) final and the ODI World Cup 2023, the Uday Saharan-led India Under-19 team lost Australia on Sunday, February 11 at the Willowmoore Park in Benoni.
Chasing the highest total in the grand final of the Under-19 World Cup across all eight editions, India succumbed to a 79-run defeat as the wickets kept falling and were eventually bowled out at 174. During their run-chase, an instance from India inning has gone viral where the Indian pacer Naman Tiwari was seen motivating Murugan Abhishek.
While stitching the highest ninth wicket partnership, Naman was heard motivating his teammate as he was caught on the stump mic saying, “Yaad rakhna, haarenge par seekh ke jayenge (Remember, we may lose but we will learn and go from here)”.

Entering the final as one of table toppers, they went on to beat South Africa U19 in the semifinal to enter their fifth consecutive final. However, they failed to defend the title as they lost by 79 runs with Australia claiming their fourth U19 title.
