Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh drew first blood by dismissing Kyle Mayers at a score of 17. But the Windies' batting continued with an aggressive mindset until they lost three quick wickets in Brandon King, Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran in the fifth and sixth overs. Rescuing the West Indian batting, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer performed well and posted 45 and 61 as the Crimson Calypso neared a massive score.

But with Mukesh Kumar's water-tight death bowling effort and another top-notch Kuldeep Yadav performance, the Men in Blue restricted West Indies at 178 despite late cameos by Odean Smith and Akeal Hossain. Kumar picked up one wicket, while Yadav had two. However, India's best bowler was Arshdeep as he ended with three wickets.
