Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan opened up on his decision to announce retirement and revealed his wish for his son, Zorawar. Dhawan, fondly called Gabbar by fans, said that he wants his son to be aware of his retirement and his cricketing journey. Notably, on the morning of August 24, the veteran India batter called time on his 14-year-old international career. In the past, Dhawan has opened up on how he hasn’t been able to get in touch with his son after divorce from ex-wife Ayesha Mukherjee.

After announcing his retirement, Dhawan opened up about wish for his son. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he said, “Zorawar is 11 now. I hope he gets to know about my retirement and all about my cricket journey. But more than as a cricketer, I would like for Zorawar to remember me as a good human being who does good deeds and brings positivity to people around him.”

Talking about his cricketing journey, he said, “Nothing at all. I achieved 100% of my potential. I played all three formats — test, ODI and T20 for my country and gave my best. I feel complete, I am at ease now.” The 38-year-old revealed that he would like Akshay Kumar to play his role if a biopic is ever made on him. He said, “I would love it, only if it is made well. As for me acting in it, I would happily do it in case I added any value to the film. As for other actors, I would love for Akshay paaji to do it, or even Ranveer Singh, for the sheer energy he has.”

Dhawan, who leads Punjab Kings in the IPL went on to talk about his post-retirement plans and said that he would like to do something new. The Delhi-born cricketer concluded, “I am already making a good return through my ventures but…Of course, the option to do commentary, etc. is always there for me because of my expertise. But I want to try and do something new and bigger. I want to jump high, and I am not afraid of falling.”
