Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen on Wednesday advanced to the semifinal of the Women’s 48-50kg (Flyweight) after she beat Helen Jones of Wales 5-0. The Indian pugilist assured India of another medal at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games with her dominating performance against Jones. But it was not her win that won the hearts of people. Zareen’s special birthday wish for her mother was what went viral on the internet.
While Zareen was tough and dominating against her opponent inside the ring, she was equally soft and loving outside of it. As soon as Zareen was declared the winner of the bout, the Indian boxer had a broad smile on her face and she walked out of the ring like a star. She then uttered a few words at the camera that showed her walking out of the ring.
Zareen was heard saying, “Happy Birthday Ammi. I Love you. Allah aapko khush rakhe”. The video of the Indian pugilist leaving a special message for her mother won hearts of fans and it was shared widely on social media. “The beautiful thing by @nikhat_zareen after winning QF,” a Twitter user wrote while sharing the video.
Notably, Zareen completely dominated her opponent in the Quarterfinal on Wednesday as she won by unanimous decision of 5-0 in her favor. The 26-year-old hardly gave Jones a chance in the match.
The Indian used her rich experience to unsettle Jones from the onset. She came out attacking and used her combinations of left and right punches to overpower her opponent. Zareen will next face Savannah Alfia Stubley of England in the semifinals, where a win will secure her podium finish.
