The Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2022 has kicked off with a match between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. The two teams are locking horns at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Afghanistan’s opening pair of Hazratullah Zazari and Rahmanullah Gurbaz got a decent start as they scored 11 runs in the first two overs. But with the runs not coming at a brisk rate, Gurbaz tried to up the ante against Maheesh Theekshana.

Guurbaz scored a maximum on the fourth delivery of the third over as he slog-swept Theekshana over the deep midwicket fence. On the next ball, it seemed the mystery spinner got his man as Gurbaz was caught at long-on while trying for a maximum. Danushka Gunathilaka seemed quite confident about his catch and so did the on-field umpires.

But when the replays of the dismissal were shown, it looked like Gunathilaka’s back leg touched the advertising cushions when he still had the ball in his hand. Upon seeing this, the on-field umpires referred the decision to the third umpire but the soft signal was still out. However, as soon as the replay was played, there was clear contact between the fielder’s shoes and the advertising cushion. And hence, Gurbaz was ruled not out.
