Team India registered a 6-wicket win in the first T20I against West Indies at Eden Gardens. After opting to field, the bowlers put on a show and restricted the visitors to 157 on a good track. Debutant Ravi Bishnoi picked 2 wickets in his 4 overs and gave away only 17 runs. In reply, Indian openers provided a fiery start, piling on 50 runs in just 5 overs. However, West Indies made a comeback after the powerplay and picked up 3 wickets in a quick interval.
Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant tried to take the game forward but the dismissal of the wicketkeeper had put India in a tricky situation. The team needed a good partnership to take India home and the experienced SKY made sure that he along with Venkatesh Iyer remain at the crease till the final ball. The middle-order batter motivated the young all-rounder and told him to win the match for India.
“Venky tere ko game jitana hai”, SKY was caught saying on stump mic.
