Australia has named an 18-member squad for the upcoming India tour. The Australian cricket board on Wednesday (11 January) announced the squad for the upcoming series. The two sides are set to play four-Test matches, followed by three ODIs set to be played in March 2023.

There were two surprise names in the Australia squad. Todd Murphy received a maiden call-up, who is set to partner Nathan Lyon as spinner in the upcoming tour. Another prominent name was that of Peter Handscomb. The 31-year-old will don the baggy green for the first time since January 2019.

It is to be noted that Australia will travel to India with four spinners for the Test series, set to be held in Nagpur, Delhi, Dharamsala and Ahmedabad in February - March.

 

Mitchell Starc to miss Nagpur Test

 

Injured Australian pacer Mitchell Starc will miss the first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, set to take place in Nagpur starting February 9, 2023. Notably, Starc is nursing from an injury he sustained during the opening day of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa. He was later diagnosed with a detached tendon in the middle finger and thus missed the third Test of the series.
