Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey made it to the headlines during the second Test of Ashes 2023. Carey was involved in a controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow on the final day of the second Test. The 30-year-old cricketer was termed as “Ashes Villain” by the British media for the same, and several cricket giants criticised him for his doing. Carey has got himself in hot water even before the dust of controversial dismissal could settle down as a barber in Leeds has issued the Aussie a deadline to pay USD 57.
It seems that Carey is definitely having a tough time in the UK as he has found himself making headlines, all thanks to the former England captain, Alastair Cook. During the third Test of Ashes 2023, while Cook was commentating with BBC, he made a shocking revelation about the visiting cricketer. The former English opener said that Carey did not pay a barber after getting a haircut in Leeds a day ahead of the ongoing third Test, along with David Warner, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne. Carey refused to click pictures with him and left without paying.
According to The Sun, the barber said that Carey did not have cash and he said that he would transfer the money but is yet to transfer it. Mahmood said, "I’m still waiting. They all came in just before we shut. We cut their hair and had a great laugh. But we don’t accept cards and Alex said he had no cash on him. Well, there’s a Tesco cash machine literally round the corner he could have run to." Giving a benefit of doubt to Carey, Mahmood gave a deadline to him and said, "Maybe he forgot. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt but if it’s not paid by Monday, I won’t be happy.”
Carey didn't get a haircut since we were in London: Steve Smith claims reports to be untrue
Former Australia skipper Steve Smith claimed that the reports by The Sun aren't true and said that Carey didn't get a haircut since the time they were in London. Taking it on Threads, Carey's teammate posted, "I can confirm that Alex Carey has not had a haircut since we were in London. Get your facts right @thesun."
Notably, the Baggy Greens are currently leading the ongoing series by 2-0 against the English hosts.
