The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made an announcement that Phil Simmons will continue to be the head coach of their men’s national team until the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. The former West Indies cricketer was retained by the BCB after his current contract with them expired at the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, despite the fact that it was quite a tough tournament for them in regard to the results.
Notably, after getting appointed in the head coach role in October 2024, Phil Simmons took the Bangladesh cricket team to the Champions Trophy earlier this year in Pakistan and the UAE. But, in their three fixtures in Group A, Bangladesh failed to win any, losing by big margins against India and New Zealand before their third and final group stage match against the hosts Pakistan was washed out without a ball being bowled due to rain.
I am delighted to be given the opportunity to work with Bangladesh cricket on a long-term basis: Phil Simmons
Following the confirmation from the BCB about retaining Phil Simmons as the head coach of the Bangladesh cricket team, he said in a statement, as per Cricbuzz, “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to work with Bangladesh cricket on a long-term basis. The talent within this team is undeniable, and I believe we have the potential to achieve great things together. I am looking forward to the journey ahead.”
The former West Indies batter also lauded some of the players in Bangladesh cricket for possessing a lot of skill and passion to play cricket for their country. He remarked, “Having worked with some exceptional players already, I can see the immense promise in this squad. Their skill and passion for the game inspire me daily. Together, we can take Bangladesh cricket to new heights and create something truly special.”
"My time with the Bangladesh team over the past few months has been incredibly rewarding. The energy, commitment, and ability within this group have been nothing short of impressive. I'm excited to continue helping these players reach their full potential,” Phil Simmons further added.
