The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has been appointed as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chief for the third time in a row. His extension was unanimously agreed upon during the ACC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bali on Wednesday, January 31. Shah is in the second year of his second two-year term as the head of the continental cricket governing body. Shah was appointed as the ACC chief for the first time in 2021, as he replaced Nazmul Hassan.
He became the youngest administrator to take over the role of the ACC Chief and became the first person to secure two consecutive terms. According to Cricbuzz, the ACC meeting in Bali was held on January 29, where discussion over the ACC President position took place. Shah’s extension for the post was proposed by the President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), while all other ACC members backed the nominations.
The President of the SLC, Shammi Silva said, "Jay has played a pivotal role in steering the ACC towards significant progress in promoting and developing cricket across the Asian region. Under Mr. Shah's guidance, the ACC has been instrumental in unearthing and promoting new talent in cricketing powerhouses like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.”
After his re-election, Jay Shah said, "I am grateful to the ACC Board for their continued trust. We must remain committed to ensuring the all-round development of the sport, with a special focus on regions where it is still in its infancy. The ACC is committed to nurturing cricket across Asia.”
