Dana White, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President, has confirmed that Conor McGregor is not returning to fight inside the octagon in June after the Irishman said that he would compete at UFC 302. On the Pat McAfee Show, the 54-year-old said that he is hoping for Conor McGregor to fight in the fall, without giving a specific date.
Conor McGregor competed inside the octagon the last time in July 2021 on the UFC 264 card against Dustin Poirier, losing the contest after breaking his leg. Since then, the 35-year-old has been recovering on the sidelines, showing up at the 31st season of the Ultimate Fighter as a coach last year against the opposition coach Michael Chandler.
Since then, the rumours and speculations have surfaced around Conor McGregor going head-to-head against Michael Chandler, but nothing is being confirmed as of yet. After the Irishman spoke about returning to the octagon on June 29 of this year in the UFC 302, Dana White cleared the air around the situation on the Pat McAfee Show.
The UFC President provided the latest on Conor McGregor stepping inside the octagon this summer after Pat McAfee questioned him on whether the multi-time champion will go head-to-head against Michael Chandler. He said, “Hopefully this year. There is no date. I’m hoping for the fall, (hopefully) we get it done in the fall.”
Don't use the monopoly word with me, please: Dana White to Pat McAfee
When Pat McAfee spoke about how TKO, a company which owns the WWE and UFC, have a monopoly on running arenas in the United States of America, Dana White became defensive in response. The 54-year-old said on the Pat McAfee Show, “Don't use the monopoly word with me, please,” which led to a few sheepish laughs in the recording studio.
Dana White was also critical of the media at one stage of the interview, which saw ESPN cut the live feed of the Pat McAfee Show.
