Ahead of IPL 2021, Delhi Capitals have definitely been forced to start the new season on a backfoot. After their skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury, the franchise has been handed another huge setback.

Axar Patel tests positive for COVID-19

All-rounder Axar Patel, who has been in sensational form off-late for India, has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 just a few days before the start of the 14th edition of the tournament. While he is currently under isolation following all the health protocols, Patel is now doubtful for Delhi Capitals' first game against Chennai Super Kings on April 10.

Axar’s performance in IPL 2020

The all-rounder played a key role in IPL 2020 as Delhi Capitals reached their first final in the history of the tournament. With the bat, Axar made some vital contributions lower down the order, scoring 117 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 137.64. The 27-year-old was exceptional with the ball in hand as he scalped 9 wickets in the tournament at a scintillating economy of 6.41. Considering the all-round value he brings to the side, it will be interesting to see if the franchise can cope if Patel is unavailable for a few games.
