Spain made it to their first-ever semifinal of the  FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023  as they gained a 2-1 victory over Netherlands on August 11, Friday. The first goal of the game came in the 81st minute, when Mariona Caldentey converted a penalty into a goal. Things were in favour of them until Netherlands’ Stefanie van der Gragt hit a goal for her side and took the score 1-1, forcing some extra time.

Meanwhile, the deciding goal came in the 111th minute, when Salma Paralluelo scored home and sent her side to their first-ever top four of the tournament. In the next clash, they will lock horns with either Japan or Sweden.

Spain maintained their dominance on the opponents right from the beginning. However, despite a powerful performance in the game, it took them the second half of extra time to secure their berth in the next stage. With this defeat, the tournament came to an end for Netherlands. On the other hand, as mentioned, Spain will lock horns with the winners of Japan vs Sweden in Auckland on Tuesday, August 15.

If they win the battle, Spain will play their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup final. In the summit clash, they will be up against either England, Colombia, Australia or France. The final battle will be played on August 20, Sunday, at Stadium Australia.
