French racing driver P ierre Gasly is likely to join Alpine and an official announcement is expected in the 'coming hours.' Ever since Fernando Alonso vacated the seat, Pierre Gasly emerged as a frontrunner for the seat. An Italian football journalist, Fabrizio Romano, who is widely known for his accurate reports related to football transfers and other developments, turned his attention to F1 to confirm Gasly's move.

Notably, Gasly has been at AlphaTauri/Toro Rosso for a combined four and a half seasons and no driver has started more races for them than he has. Taking to Twitter, Romano wrote, "Different kind of here we go today! For some minutes I’ll be into Formula 1. I understand Pierre Gasly will join BWT Alpine F1 Team from Alpha Tauri from the end of the season. Personal terms all signed and an official announcement is expected in the coming hours.”

However, when Gasly was asked about the deal, Frenchman said that he is expecting the matter to be resolved within the next couple of weeks.

"I would expect, obviously everyone knows the ongoing conversation and discussion, but [from] my side I think hopefully in the next two or three weeks we should have a clear answer on my future. But so far nothing has changed and when there will be something confirmed on my future, I’m sure you guys (media) will know about it," the Frenchman said.

Speaking of Pierre Gasly's performance in the recently concluded Singapore Grand Prix, AlphaTauri had a disappointing end to the race as the Frenchman was running seventh in the race when AlphaTauri decided to put his car and switch to slick tires. The track had not yet dried up enough and the switch to slicks ended up costing the team valuable points in the championship.

Gasly claimed it a gamble that did not work out. Speaking to Motorsport post-race, he said, "There was no communication and no dialogue, which I don’t fully understand why. We took a gamble in a moment where we didn't need it. So, we boxed, everybody stayed out on track, and we got overcut by four cars."

The lack of communication between the team and the driver led to Aston Martin overtaking AlphaTauri in the constructor's championship. Daniel Ricciardo, Lance Stroll, and Sebastian Vettel started behind the Frenchman but finished in front of him having pitted later.
