India’s wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik might have unofficially announced his retirement from international cricket as the Tamil Nadu-born cricketer dropped a video on Instagram. Karthik shared a post on the social media platform with a long caption where he talked about his dream of playing at the T20 World Cup.

The wicketkeeper batter then thanked his teammates, coaches, friends and fans for their support in making his dream come true.

“Worked hard towards the goal of playing the T20 World Cup for India and it was such a proud feeling to do so... we did fall short of the ultimate motive, but it did fill my life with many memories to cherish. Thank you to all my fellow players, coaches, friends and most importantly the fans for the undying support,” wrote Karthik on social media.

Talking about Dinesh Karthik's performance at the T220 World Cup 2022, the wicketkeeper batter had an underwhelming outing. Karthik played in four matches wherein he scored 14 runs in 3 innings. The veteran wicketkeeper who was roped in to provide the finishing touches managed only one boundary in three innings.

After an underwhelming performance in the league stage, Karthik could not find a place in the playing XI in the semifinal against England.

The selectors also indicated that Karthik won't be considered for selection going forward as the wicketkeeper batter was not picked for the series against New Zealand. “The World Cup is going to finish in some days and so we need to decide whom to rest or not. He (Karthik) has been performing and he is available to us. But this time we just thought of trying a different set of players after the World Cup,” now sacked chairman of selectors Sharma had said.

With no hope of another comeback, Dinesh Karthik might call it quits at the highest level while he continues to play franchise cricket.
