HBO Sports Documentaries announced on Thursday that a four-part documentary series on Shaquille O'Neal's life and NBA career will premiere on November 23. The four-part docuseries is named 'SHAQ' and it will span four weeks, with new episodes airing each Wednesday.
The series includes interviews with NBA stars Dwyane Wade, Derek Fisher, Jerry West and former coaches Phil Jackson, and Pat Riley among other colleagues of O'Neal's. Apart from the NBA stars the docuseries also feature his mother, Dr. Lucille O’Neal, siblings Jamal and Lateefah Harrison, and his children Taahirah, Shareef, and Myles.
The docuseries will feature interviews with O’Neal as the HBO documentary, SHAQ tells the story of the 7-foot-1 basketball icon, who won four NBA championships, league MVP honors. Additionally, it also features his life off the court, from his upbringing in a military family to his deepest personal relationships and prosperous broadcasting and business careers.
"We kept this documentary real from the start, and I do feel like it is the most honest look into my life and career up until this point. This process allowed me to reflect publicly in a way I haven’t before, and I’m so proud of the work everyone has done to put it all together," said O’Neal in a statement.
SHAQ is directed by Robert Alexander, who also executive produced the documentary alongside Peter Berg, Matthew Goldberg, Brandon Carroll, Mike Parris, Perry Rogers, Colin Smeeton, and Robert Alexander and the co-executive producer, Katy Murakami.
