Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, talked about being glad to win the second Test after the Director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, Mohammed Hafeez, claimed that they played “better cricket” than the hosts. At the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), it was Australia who managed to defeat 79 runs in a highly competitive Test match.

On Day four of the second Test match, Australia set a target of 317 runs for Pakistan to register their first win in the longest format of the game down under in nearly 30 years. But, despite the good performances from the middle-order batters from Pakistan, including fifties from the captain Shan Masood and Agha Salman, their lower order folded with the last five wickets going down for just 18 runs.

During the post-match press conference, Mohammed Hafeez summed up the performance of Pakistan, calling it better than Australia, despite the eventual loss. He was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo, “We played better cricket as a team. I'm proud of that. The way the team had the courage to attack this game in the best possible way. If I sum up the game, the Pakistan team played better than the other team in general. Our batting intent was better, and while bowling, we were hitting the right areas.”

Shortly afterwards, when Pat Cummins was asked about his opinion in regards to what the Director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team had said earlier, he responded, “Ahhhh. Cool. They played well. I am glad we got the win. It doesn’t really matter, does it? It is the team who wins at the end.”

Notably, the third and final Test match of the series between Australia and Pakistan will begin on Wednesday, January 3, at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). It will also be the final Test match in the illustrious career of David Warner, who has dominated bowling attacks all over the world at the top of the order in the longest format of the game for the last decade or so.
