Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has made a big statement regarding the captaincy of Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis. The Rawalpindi Express claimed that he is not a big fan of the RCB skipper as he doesn't have confidence in Faf's captaincy skills. Notably, Bangalore roped in Faf du Plessis for ₹7 crore at the mega-auction and named him the skipper of the team in IPL 2022.
Playing his first match as RCB skipper, Du Plessis smashed 88 runs from 57 balls against Punjab Kings in their season opener. As a result, Bangalore scored a mammoth 205/2 in their quota of 20 overs. However, RCB went on to lose the match as they failed to defend the target, losing the match with an over to spare. In their next match, RCB defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 3 wickets in low-scoring thriller.
Speaking on Sportskeeda’s show "SK Match Ki Baat", Akhtar gave ave his views on the RCB captain. He said, “Virat has quit leadership and Du Plessis has taken over, so he will lead in his own way. I am not a huge fan of Faf du Plessis because I don’t see anything (special) in his captaincy.”
Virat has been a very unfortunate captain for both India and RCB: Akhtar
The former Pakistan pacer labelled formed RCB and Team India skipper Virar Kohli as 'a very unfortunate captain'.
“Virat has been a very unfortunate captain for both India and RCB. He tried his best, but it didn’t work for them. Having said that, Faf has a point to prove. At times, he doesn’t look that sharp during his leadership. He has been given the responsibility of leading a huge franchise, so let’s see if he is able to revive their fortunes.”
