While on one end India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 clash saw a no-result with rain playing a spoilsport, the Indian hockey team beat their Pakistani opponent to win the Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier on Saturday, September 2. The Indian men’s team were crowned champions with a 6-4 win.

 

Notably, with this win the Indian men’s hockey team qualified for the FIH Men’s Hockey 5s World Cup Oman 2024. While Mohammed Raheel hit the back of the net twice, once in the 19 th  minute with the second strike coming in the 26 th  minute, Jugraj Singh (7’) and Maninder Singh (10’) were among the other two strikers. While the scoreboard read 4-4 in the regulation time with the game going into the shoot-out, India’s Gurjot Singh and Maninder Singh scored for the side.

 

On the other hand, Abdul Rehman (5’), captain Abdul Rana (13’), Zikriya Hayat (14’) and Arshad Liaqat (19’) were among the goals for Pakistan.

 

Hockey India announce cash reward for players and support staff

 

Soon after the win, the Hockey India, official committee for hockey in India announced cash rewards for the winning side. While the players of the side will be rewarded with INR 2,00,000 each, the support staff has also been honoured with a cash reward worth INR 1,00,000.
