Neymar Jr. missed out Santos FC’s latest match against Corinthians as he was not fit due to discomfort. Santos ended up losing 2-1 in the semi-final game of the Campeonato Paulista. The Brazilian winger who moved to his boyhood club at the start of 2025, has since had a great start to life. He has played seven games for the South American club, scoring three goals and providing as many assists and has been making headlines in the past couple of weeks. The forward even earned himself an international call-up with Brazil playing Argentina and Colombia in the upcoming international break in the third week of March.
“Unfortunately I felt some pain in the recent weeks… I really wanted to help the team, then we made tests in the morning but I felt pain again,” said Neymar after missing out on Santos FC's latest match. The Brazilian had featured in the quarter-finals of the Campeonato Paulista against Bragantino on March 3, where he had scored a goal and led his team to a 2-0 victory.
An injury-ridden past few years for the winger
Neymar has had an injury-ridden past few years after he moved to the Saudi side Al-Hilal from PSG. The forward made a move to the Middle East in August 2023 but has since played only seven games in his one and a half season tenure. He recently moved to his boyhood club Santos on a short-term six-months deal where he had a good start to life.
The winger who has 128 international caps and is Brazil’s leading goal scorer with 79 goals, was called up to the national squad ahead of the first round of qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup. With such injury concerns looming over Neymar, it will be interesting to see whether he is fit in time to play for the national team.
