Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Moeen Ali has suffered an ankle injury during a training session. CSK is waiting for scan results after he picked up the injury on Saturday. As a result, the England international will be out of action at least for the next week. The same has been confirmed by a source close to SportsTiger.
This is Chennai’s third major injury as the Men in Yellow have already lost Deepak Chahar with a back injury that he suffered while recovering from a quadricep tear. Similarly, their other fast bowler Adam Milne was sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Moeen Ali last played for CSK against Gujarat Titans on 17 April, where Chennai lost a close match by three wickets. Two days before getting injured, Moeen wasn’t selected for the match against Mumbai Indians, where CSK won. Ali was replaced by New Zealand spin-bowling allrounder Mitchell Santner, who contributed with one wicket, one catch and 11 runs from nine balls.
Similarly, so far this season, Moeen hasn’t performed well as he has scored 87 runs at an average of 17.40, including a 48 against the Sunrisers. With the ball, he hasn’t taken a single wicket so far and in his eight overs, he has conceded 68 runs.
For the Chennai Super Kings, it was a vintage MS Dhoni performance against Mumbai Indians, where he scored 16 runs in the final over to chase the target of 155. CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja praised MS Dhoni and the team for a great performance. Jadeja also addressed the dropped catches and poor fielding display against Mumbai.
He said, “If you aren't winning games, you still want to be calm. (On him dropping catches) It happens, that's why I never take fielding for granted and practice hard. We need to work on our fielding, can't afford to drop catches.”
“We were very tense the way game was going. But the great finisher of the game was still there, so we knew we had a chance. He's(Dhoni) still here and doing it for us. Yes, he (Mukesh) has bowled well up front and done well for us in the powerplay,” added Jadeja.
