Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been out of competitive cricket since September 2022 due to a back injury, missing various big tournaments including the T20 World Cup, Asia Cup, and WTC Final, among others. But after getting surgery in March of this year, he was spotted bowling at the nets in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru as part of his rehabilitation recently, with an eye on returning to the Indian setup at the earliest.

There is no official confirmation on the BCCI’s part as to when Jasprit Bumrah will make his return to Team India, but the speculation has been running rampant about the fast bowler going to Ireland to take part in the upcoming tour to Ireland. The Indian cricket team is scheduled to play a three-match T20I series from August 18 to 23, in the build-up to the Asia Cup later in the same month.

Recently, the captain of India, Rohit Sharma provided the fitness update on Jasprit Bumrah, during the press conference, leading up to the first ODI between West Indies and India at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. He wasn’t sure about when the fast bowler would play his first match for the country upon his return, but he hoped that the 29-year-old would play in the build-up to the ODI World Cup at home in October and November of this year.

The 36-year-old was quoted as saying, “The amount of experience he (Jasprit Bumrah) brings is very important. Right now he's coming from a serious injury and I've no idea if he'll travel to Ireland because the team hasn't been announced yet.”

“If he gets to play then it's good and we hope he plays before the World Cup. When a player returns from a serious injury, match fitness, match feeling are some key components, which are missing. We'll see what has been planned and everything depends on his recovery. We are in constant touch with the NCA and things look positive at the moment,” remarked Rohit Sharma.
