In a significant blow, 21-year-old Jack Draper is set to miss the next Grand Slam of the season in Wimbledon 2023. This comes after the British tennis player sustained a shoulder injury at the French Open last week.
It is to be noted that the 21-year-old's progress has been hampered by a string of injuries. Prior to last Monday's first-round match at Roland Garros against Tomas Etcheverry, Draper was hurt during a practice session. The No. 4 ranked British player occasionally had to serve underhanded before retiring after just one game in the second set.
Disappointed Draper hoped that the issue with his left shoulder would not significantly interfere with his grass-court campaign. However, following scans and consultation with a physician, Draper has made the decision to skip the entire British summer, including Wimbledon.
“It’s clear my shoulder is going to need time and rehab to get back to where it needs to be. My team and I have made the difficult decision to miss the grass court season this year,” Draper wrote in an Instagram post.
Due to hip and abdominal issues, Draper has already missed a significant amount of this year. The English player also claimed to be "mentally destroyed" when in Paris last week and added, "I hate being the guy who is injured a lot."
