Lucknow Super Giants are set to drop captain KL Rahul after the team's 10-wicket demolition against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Further reports also claim Rahul may not be retained for the upcoming 2025 IPL mega auction. LSG, batting first, crawled their way to 166 after a slow start.
Then in the second innings, Hyderabad chased down the total in just 9.4 overs without losing a single wicket. After this defeat, Rahul was spotted in a heated discussion with the LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka which created a lot of uproar.
Rahul to step down as captain after Goenka controversy; may leave LSG: Reports
Since that incident, PTI reported that Rahul, who was roped in before the auction in 2022 for a record INR 17 crore, is unlikely to be retained before the mega auctions in 2025. Further reports claim that Rahul might step down on his own and concentrate on batting during the next two games.
"There is a five-day gap before the next game against DC. As of now, no decision has been taken but it is understood that if Rahul plans to just concentrate on his batting for the remaining two games, the management won't mind," an IPL source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
But this is unreal batting: KL Rahul after SRH defeat
Talking about this loss, KL Rahul in his post-match interview said, "I am lost for words. We have watched that kind of batting on TV. But this is unreal batting. Everything seemed to find the middle of the bat. Kudos to their skills. They have worked hard on their six-hitting skills. They didn't give us a chance to know what the pitch played in the second innings. Was hard to stop them as they teed off from ball one."
"Once you are on the losing side, there are questions marks on the decisions taken. We were 40-50 runs short. When we lost wickets in the powerplay, we couldn't get any momentum. Ayush and Nicky batted well to get us to 166. But even if we would have got 240, they could have chased it as well," he added.
