In a big update the second edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 will kick start from July 4, the Independence Day of the United State of America (USA). Additionally, the tournament will begin just days after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024, set to be held in the US and the Caribbean in June 2024.
In another major update around the 2024 edition of the tournament, the second edition will be played in the round-robin format after the inaugural one was played in a single round robin due to several constraints. However, the venues and the schedule of the event is yet to be finalised, the organisers confirmed that MLC 2024 is expected to wrap up by early August.
While the Grand Prairie and Morrisville Stadium are more or less the two confirmed venues, which even hosted the first edition, it is being understood that two more venues could be added in the 2024 edition of MLC.
“The tremendous success of the inaugural Major League Cricket season provides a perfect platform to propel American cricket to even greater heights in 2024,” said Tournament Director of Major Cricket League, Justin Geale. “We expect to see even more world class players taking part in season two of Major League Cricket, creating an incredible summer for the sport in America along with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” he further added.
Talking about the opening edition of the tournament, Mumbai Indians’ franchise, MI New York won the inaugural edition, beating Seattle Orcas by seven wickets. While they were only able to register two wins in the league stage and managed to enter the playoffs on the back of a positive NRR, they successfully beat Washington Freedom and Faf du Plessis-led Texas Super Kings to seal a berth in final and finally beat the Orcas to lift the maiden title.
