Manchester United issued a statement over the allegations against forward Antony. Notably, the 23-year-old was removed from the squad set to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) on Monday, September 4. The decision by the Brazilian football regulatory body came after the assault allegations made by his former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin.

According to the statement, " Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting enquiries. Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments."
The club further said, "As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact of these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse."
Earlier, the Brazilian governing body had said, "Given the publicised facts involving Manchester United striker Antony that require investigation, and with the intention of safeguarding the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian national team, and the CBF, Antony is withdrawn from the squad."
Antony, however, has time and again denied all the allegations that have been made against him. He said that all the claims are false and the ongoing police investigation will prove his innocence.
