The Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals Women succumbed to eight-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore Women in WPL 2024 finale on Sunday, March 17. The Capitals, who were cruising at one point of time and finished the league stage as table toppers, failed to seal their maiden title despite making it to their second consecutive WPL finale.
With the game looking to go Delhi’s way at one point of time, took a U-turn with Sophie Molineux’s triple strike in an over. However, Lanning and her side put up a great fight, courtesy some disciplined blowing to restrict RCB Women’s chase, but it wasn’t enough for her side to seal the game.
As Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh held their nerves to help the Bengaluru-based team clinch their maiden title and wrap up the game with three balls remaining, Meg Lanning stood alone, breaking down in tears on the sidelines as RCB Women celebrated their much-awaited title triumph. The 31-year-old former Australian cricketer was left in tears with her face covered with handkerchief, before she was consoled by one of the support staff members of the DC Women.
